Professor Jorge Sá (PhD Columbia University; MBA Drucker University; Jean Monnet Chair; Peter Drucker speaker) is an international speaker and author, having published several books on business and economics topics, namely the book:
“There is no leadership: only effective management”
In the present world crisis, there is much talk about the importance of leadership: a current theme and a consequence of general dissatisfaction.
That dissatisfaction stands from a misconception of what leadership really is, as this book demonstrates, using the first book on the subject (of Xenophon about Cyrus the great, founder of the Persian empire), History (Chancellorsville, called by the military as the perfect battle) and the practice of the best managers and scholars in the world (Peter Drucker, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jack Welch, Andy Grove and Alfred Sloan).
Using these sources, the book demonstrates that no one can lead, without being an effective manager, that is, being able of organizing, coordinating, putting the right person in the right place, motivating, informing and controlling. Only then can anyone produce results through others (the core of most definitions of leadership).
Thus the title: There is no leadership, only effective management. Thus the importance of the book. And thus, finally, the general dissatisfaction with such a central theme.
At the end of the day, the most charismatic personalities of the 20th century (Hitler, Mussolini) were defeated by men, with no “personality” but who knew how to… manage: Marshall, Eisenhower and Montgomery, demonstrating that there is no leadership, only effective management (cover, index and back cover below).
